DeLand, it almost rhymes with “Tan”
Hey there tan guy/gal! Are you searching for an “oppor-TAN-ity” to take your suntan to the next level this weekend? Do you just need a re-up on your sun supply after a long week in the office? Well if you’re anything like old Tanny, you’ve probably answered “yes” to both questions. So tan fan, where ya’ gonna go? What’s the place that will take you from 0 to 100% tan, real quick!? Well today, the featured “Suntan Spot” is DeLand, Florida.
“But Tanny, isn’t the area between Daytona Beach and Orlando a suntan wasteland, where dreams of an even, golden-brown shine go to die, and the farmer’s tan reigns supreme?” – Joe from Daytona
Joe, you couldn’t be more wrong thankfully. You see, Tanny likes some variety in his tanning locales, so check out some of the spots around DeLand listed below to get a great tan this weekend.
Tanning in Blue Springs State Park – DeLand, Florida Suntanning
Tanny thinks it should really be called “Bronzed Springs”, but you can’t get everything you want sometimes. Whatever. Still Blue Springs is a phenomenal place to catch a suntan, and maybe, if you’re lucky, to catch a manatee sighting. While the manatees normally frequent the park in huge numbers during the winter, they can also be seen during the summer as well. They must have gotten world that old Tanny was going to make an appearance in early August, so a bunch came out just to check out my glorious, tanned skin. I mean, no big deal, but a suntan so great, even the animals pay dues…now that’s what’s up!
Boating on the Saint Johns River – DeLand, Florida Suntanning
Tanny’s a little too poor to own a boat, but if you’re lucky, someone on your tan team likely owns one. Once you’ve determined your boating options, it’s time for you to hit up the premier river in Florida, the Saint Johns. You’ve heard why the Saint John’s flows North right? Because Georgia sucks or, inversely, because Miami blows. While Tanny isn’t sure of the scientific basis of such statements, they seem logical enough.
Multitask while tanning by scheduling a fishing trip with the greatest fishing guide in DeLand. He goes by Big Glenn, and he’ll make sure you catch a big, old bass.
De Leon Springs – DeLand, Florida Suntanning
Another great place to get your tan on at is De Leon Springs. De Leon Springs has a crystal clear spring that gushes up into a natural swimming pool for all to enjoy. Other activities that will help you with your tan include kayak/canoe rentals as well as boat tours of the area. De Leon Springs is well known for the “Old Sugar Mill” restaurant, where you can pay to cook your own pancakes at your table.
I know, I don’t get it either, but there are crazier things out there.
Just don’t forget folks, DeLand is ready to get you tan, all you have to do is ask.
Tan Responsibly,
Tanny Mangino
